Brentford FC appear to have moved into pole position for 1. FC Köln starlet Said El Mala.

According to Sport Bild, the 19-year-old has hinted in the Köln dressing room that a club is willing to meet his €50m asking price – with that club said to be Brentford.

El Mala is also said to have given his teammates “clear indications” that he will leave the club after one year, most likely in the direction of Brentford.

Previously, Brighton & Hove Albion looked like the most realistic destination, but the Premier League side were unwilling to pay more than €35 million plus bonuses and therefore couldn't reach an agreement with Köln.

Brentford’s contract offer is said to be higher than Brighton's, further boosting ‘The Bees’ as favourites to sign El Mala.

The 19-year-old’s market value could rise further if he is included in Germany’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, as reported.

Chelsea and Newcastle are also said to be monitoring the young attacker’s situation.
