After Lennart Karl's World Cup aspirations with Germany cruelly went up in smoke, his injury could now have grave implications for Bayern Munich.
The 18-year-old sensation was due to feature for Julian Nagelsmann's side until an untimely muscle bundle tear ended his chances.
Now, the concern for the recently crowned double champions of Germany is down to the severity of the thigh problem.
From a medical perspective, a muscle bundle tear is a more serious and requires significantly more time to heal than a muscle fiber tear.
Depending on the severity and healing process, the recovery time for an injury in the quadriceps area is usually between six and twelve weeks.
Should this be the case and six weeks is required, Karl may return just in time for Bayern's pre-season which starts 20 July.
However, if the winger is out for 12 weeks, he runs the risk of missing Bayern's first few games of the 2026-27 Bundesliga campaign.
Karl, who produced 5 goals and 5 assists in his maiden topflight season last year, may not be fit for the Bundesliga's start date of 28 August.
