Mainz confirm Ingvartsen's sale

FSV Mainz 05 confirmed the sale of striker Marcus Ingvartsen to Danish Superliga runners-up FC Nordsjaelland on Friday afternoon.
Danish striker Marcus Ingvartsen's desired return to his home country has officially been realized. The 27-year-old's German club, FSV Mainz 05, confirmed his sale to Danish league runners-up FC Nordsjaelland on Friday afternoon. The Rheinhessen have - according to early reports - turned a slight profit on the player they permanently purchased from 1. FC Union Berlin last summer.

Mainz paid a reported €2.3 million for Ingvartsen and have sold him for a reported €2.95 million. The Dane just completed a highly successful Bundesliga campaign in which he scored 12 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions for die Nullfünfter. Ingvartsen's current estimated market worth has - as a result - been pumped up to €5.5 million in the latest transfermarkt listings.

Mainz might have wished to pocket a bit more money for him, but Ingvartsen himself requested a transfer back up north. All German footballing media sources report that the forward wished to improve his playing prospects ahead of next year's European championship. FSV sporting director Martin Schmidt confirmed as much in a club statement.

"Back at his first club Marcus has the opportunity to play an important role as a leader," Schmidt noted, "He thus approached us with the desire to be release. We thank Marcus for everything he has done for our team and wish him all the best for his future."
