Confirmed: Mislintat and Stuttgart snag Turkish youth prospect for 2021/22

VfB Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat officially landed his first major 2020/21 transfer target on Wednesday. 

Despite interest from Mislintat's former club Borussia Dortmund teenage prospect Ömer Beyaz will suit up for the Swabians next season.

The day began with a bombshell emanating from Baden-Württemberg. VfB Stuttgart announced that it would not seek to extend current captain Gonzalo's expiring contract. Candidate to don the armband next season include alternates Marc Oliver Kempf, Wataru Endo, and Daniel Didavi.

Highly respected sporting director Sven Mislintat did nevertheless succeed in procuring a piece of next season's puzzle a little later in the day. Rumors that 17-year-old Ömer Faruk Beyaz of Fenerbahçe would be headed the Bundesliga's way have persisted all season. On Wednesday it became official.

The teenage sensation has still only logged a few minutes of league pitch time for the Istanbul-based club. He has made two appearances in the Ziraat Türkiye Kupasi. As the youngster ever debutant for the Turkish club, Beyaz is widely considered ahead of the game in terms of overall development.

"Ömer is a tremendous talent and one of the most sought-after players in his age bracket across Europe," Mislintat explained in a statement, "The fact he has already played for the Fenerbahçe senior side and the Turkish U21s at the age of 17 further underscores his great potential."

Beyaz's agent would not confirm that the youngster had also received offers from Hoffenheim, Manchester United, and FC Barcelona, but did directly intimate that a lot of thought had gone into the decision to commit to the VfB.

"I decided too join VfB [after discussions] together with my family and agent because VfB is known to focus on the development of young players," Beyaz said in his own statement.
