There are reportedly growing concerns at Borussia Dortmund that Nico Schlotterbeck could decide against extending his contract beyond 2027.

According to Bild, Niko Kovac may be indirectly affecting the club’s chances of keeping Schlotterbeck, with the German tabloid suggesting that the defender is “not exactly happy” with the BVB coach’s style of play.

The club’s recent inconsistent results and bleak trophy prospects are unlikely to make Schlotterbeck more inclined to sign a new deal.

Should the German international decide against a contract extension, Dortmund may want to cash in on him next summer, although reports have suggested that the club would consider keeping him until his contract expires in 2027.

Bayern Munich reportedly see Schlotterbeck as a potential replacement for Dayot Upamecano if the Frenchman leaves, while Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked with the centre-back.
