He would've become the most expensive departure in four years: HSV player Ransford Königsdörffer was set to join Ligue 1 side OGC Nice for a reported €6 million, before the deal ultimately collapsed on the final stretch.

The 23-year-old failed the medical test. His potential new club had “health concerns,” as HSV wrote. Previously, the broadcaster “RMC Sport” and the newspaper “Nice-Matin” had reported problems with the examinations.

“We did not anticipate this development, particularly given that Ransi [Königsdörffer] only missed a total of two games due to muscle problems during his three-year contract with HSV,” said sporting director Stefan Kuntz in a statement. “We welcome him back with open arms and recognize his value to our team.”

Königsdörffer played a major role in Hamburg's promotion last season, scoring 14 goals. He joined HSV from Dynamo Dresden in 2022 and his current contract runs until June 2026. The club was unable to agree on a new contract with the player.
