Stuttgart's Zagadou headed back to the sidelines after re-aggravating knee injury
Dan-Axel Zagadou's comeback from yet another major injury will once again prove short lived. After making three brief relief appearances for VfB Stuttgart (twice in the league and once in the Champions' League), the 25-year-old is headed back to the injured reserve list. This was confirmed by Stuttgart trainer Sebastian Hoeneß at his Thursday pre-match presser ahead of the weekend encounter with Wolfsburg.
“I can't say exactly how long, but he won't be available for a while," Hoeneß noted at the press conference, "This is all still being discussed. [It's] the same knee, same place. [but it's] not quite as dramatic as it was back then."
Stuttgart were able to welcome back Anthony Rouault for last week's UCL tie and the league thrashing of Dortmund. Zagadou's fellow Frenchman reprised his partnership with Jeff Chabot, impressing many Bundesliga watchers with his play.
"Daxo was one of the top central defenders in the Bundesliga for me last year when he played," Hoeneß continued, "So we naturally had high hopes that he would be that factor for us again.”
“I'm optimistic that we can compensate for that now," Hoeneß nevertheless continued, "because we have Jeff [Chabot] and Anto [Rouault], and, of course, Anrie [Chase] who gives us an extra option."
