VfL Bochum have confirmed the departure of veteran goalkeeper Manuel Riemann.

Since joining from Sandhausen in 2015, Riemann established himself as Bochum's first-choice goalkeeper, but after falling out of favor towards the end of last season, he lost his place to Patrick Drewes.

Around six months before his contract was due to expire, Riemann is now moving to 2. Bundesliga side SC Paderborn.

"Manuel Riemann and VfL Bochum have been emotionally linked for almost ten years; he has never played for a club longer than Bochum. His temperamental nature still resonates with many fans, he is a guy with rough edges," the club said in a statement.

“Even if the farewell from Castroper Strasse is different from what both sides originally imagined, everyone at VfL Bochum recognises the status that Manuel Riemann has achieved here over the past decade. Not forgetting the friendships he has made here over the years that will last beyond his playing career.”

Riemann made a total of 290 appearances for Bochum.
