Gladbach vs. Stuttgart preview: Visitors searching for first league win

Stuttgart will be looking to claim their first win of the season when they travel to Borussia-Park for Saturday’s meeting with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Gladbach

Gladbach will be satisfied with their start to the new season, having recorded two victories and one defeat in their opening three matches in all competitions. Die Fohlen kicked off the campaign with a 3-1 win over Erzgebirge Aue in the DFB-Pokal, before they fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat against Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Die Fohlen ultimately bounced back from that loss to claim all three points on the second matchday of the new Bundesliga season. Tim Kleindienst and Franck Honorat grabbed a goal apiece to fire Bochum to a 2-0 defeat at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion.

After enjoying success on the road, Gladbach will hope to build upon that result in Saturday’s home fixture. Having failed to win their last six league matches at Borussia-Park, Gladbach are looking to claim their first home win in the Bundesliga since beating Bochum 5-2 in February.

Gladbach suffered a heavy 4-0 away defeat in their most recent clash with Stuttgart in May. While they experienced a forgettable trip to the MHPArena, die Fohlen have fared well in recent meetings with Stuttgart at Borussia-Park, having avoided defeat in their last three home encounters (W2, D1).

Stuttgart

Stuttgart are still searching for their first league win of the season after taking just one point from their opening two Bundesliga games. Their campaign began with a disappointing 3-1 away defeat against Freiburg, before they responded with a dominant 5-0 win over Preußen Münster in the Pokal.

They were unable to follow their cup victory with a win in their league meeting with Mainz before the international break. Enzo Millot and Jamie Leweling grabbed a goal apiece before Mainz fought back to restore parity just after the hour mark. Despite seeing a two-goal lead wiped out, Stuttgart looked set to snatch all three points when Fabian Rieder found the net in the 88th minute. However, there was to be one final twist as Maxim Leitsch scored a stoppage-time equaliser to ensure the spoils were shared.

Having conceded six goals across their two league games, Stuttgart will be looking to produce an improved defensive display in Saturday’s contest.  The visitors are hoping to clinch their first away win over Gladbach since May 2021.
