Flick reacts to Wirtz's horror knee injury

Germany coach Hansi Flick has called Florian Wirtz on the phone to wish the 18-year-old a speedy recovery from the serious knee injury he sustained today.
Germany coach Hansi Flick has sent his best wishes to Florian Wirtz after the 18-year-old midfielder suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in Bayer Leverkusen's 0-1 loss against FC Köln today.

"Florian Wirtz is one of the greatest talents that German football has produced in recent years," Flick said in a statement released by the German Football Association (DFB).

"Therefore, we were all shocked when we found out about his ACL tear. I have already spoken to him on the phone and tried to encourage him. He's still young, he'll come back at least as strong, I'm quite sure of that.

"He has our full support. We wish him all the best and keep our fingers firmly crossed that the healing process is as optimal as possible."

Wirtz made his Germany debut in September and has gone on to feature four times for his country's senior national team.
