The 28-year-old endured a frustrating 2024/25 campaign, largely confined to the bench, and his reputation took a further hit following the infamous “Mallorca scandal” earlier this summer. A solution for all parties may now be in sight.

According to Bild, Düsseldorf sporting director Christian Weber and sporting board member Kluas Allofs have long admired Neuhaus and have stepped up their efforts to secure his signature. After what are described as positive talks with Gladbach, optimism around a potential deal is growing.

The biggest hurdle is Neuhaus' salary, believed to be around €4 million per year. All parties would need to find a compromise to make the move financially viable.

Neuhaus previously spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Düsseldorf, making 29 competitive appearances. Fortuna hope he can now be tempted back permanently as they push for promotion to the Bundesliga.
