With one year left on his current contract, Mario Götze says he can imagine staying with Eintracht Frankfurt beyond the end of the season.

Götze's current contract includes an option to extend it for a further year, and he can see that being activated.

“If it makes sense for the club and me, then that's a possibility. If I could draw up my own contract, it wouldn't end next summer,” Götze told Sport Bild, emphasizing that the club also play a part in the decision.

“First and foremost, I listen to myself and my body and, of course, my family. But don't forget: I can't give myself a contract, the ball is in the club's court. And I'm not a sporting director.”

The 33-year-old most recently missed Eintracht's 3-1 win over Hoffenheim due to muscular problems.

He joined the Bundesliga outfit from PSV in 2022.
