Emre Can will remain captain of Borussia Dortmund under new head coach Niko Kovac.

The Croatian coach confirmed at a press conference on Tuesday that the 31-year-old will keep the armband.

"I see Emre as a leading player. He is a German international. He remains the captain, I've already spoken to him today," Kovac told reporters.

With Dortmund currently sitting in a disappointing 11th place, Kovac is determined to steady the ship and lead the club up the table.

“We are here at BVB and the goal is to get the maximum out of it. We are eleventh in the table and I don't want to talk about league positions. That will be decided at the end. The league will be decided very late. The last few games will be crucial.

"We need to have stamina. That's why we want to work hard. Hope comes from hard work.”
