Mainz star Gbamin flirts with Dortmund and Leverkusen as he eyes summer transfer

Jean-Philippe Gbamin has made it clear that he wants to leave Mainz this summer.
Mainz star Jean-Philippe Gbamin says a move to England could be on the cards for him this summer, but also openly flirts with Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.

The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal last summer. The Bundesliga club didn't want to let him go at the time, but the central midfielder hopes that he will be allowed to leave this time around.

"This summer can be different," Gbamin said in an interview with Bild.

"The club know that I want to take the next step now. I hope that I can leave," he added.

Asked if he will be spending his upcoming holiday in England, Gbamin responded:

"No, but maybe I'll go there to work afterwards."

The 23-year-old could also imagine making a move within Germany, though, as he admits he has a soft spot for certain Bundesliga clubs.

"Maybe Dortmund or Leverkusen - I like those clubs," Gbamin said.

Gbamin, who's under contract until 2023, is said to be priced at around €40 million.
