Still searching for his best form at Liverpool, Florian Wirtz will aim to impress for the German national team during the international break.

After leaving Leverkusen for a record-breaking fee of around €140 million (including add-ons), Wirtz has yet to register a goal or assist and was only a substitute as Liverpool lost 1-2 to Chelsea at the weekend.

On Tuesday, he took to the pitch with Germany for the first time during the international break, and according to Bild, he stayed behind for extra shooting practice and later spent additional time in the gym as he looks to get back to his best.

“The boy is hardworking and shows energy on and off the pitch,” said Wirtz’s Germany teammate David Raum.

“He was one of the last to leave today. We believe in him, we’re building him up here. But he knows himself what he’s capable of.”

Despite criticism in England, Wirtz has received backing from German football legends, including Rudi Völler and Philipp Lahm.

“I have no worries at all about Florian Wirtz. He’s an outstanding, brilliant footballer who makes his teammates better. Moving to another league isn’t easy, and it takes time to settle in,” Lahm recently said.

Wirtz is expected to start when Germany face Luxembourg on Friday.
