Sky Report: Union consider acquiring Volland
Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports that German Champions' League representatives 1. FC Union Berlin have engaged in concrete negotiations with AS Monaco for the acquisition of German striker Kevin Volland.
Union Berlin and VfL Wolfsburg - in addition to competing with one another over the possible acquisition of German fullback Robin Gosens - are now also reportedly both interested in bringing German striker Kevin Volland back to German football. The former Hoffenheim and Leverkusen forward was linked with Wolfsburg earlier in the summer.
Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg now reports that Union Berlin have contacted AS Monaco about potentially purchasing the 30-year-old. Plettenberg reports that the Ligue 1 side are willing to sell the 15-times-capped German international for around €6-7 million. Volland himself has publicly stated that he would like to return to his home country, particularly after losing his starting place with Les Monegasques last summer.
Plettenberg emphasizes that Union have not tabled a specific offer yet. Moreover, Volland might be more amenable to a move to Wolfsburg. Union already have a packed striker corps and Volland could see better playing prospects under former Monaco trainer Niko Kovac in the northern "Autostadt".
Wolfsburg appear to be ahead of Union in the race for Gosens at this juncture, though Sky Germany is presently refuting an earlier report from Italy suggesting that the German Wolves are close to an outright purchase. The German media claims that Wolfsburg still wish to negotiate a loan and that Inter Milan aren't satisfied with such an arrangement.
