Borussia Dortmund have made some lucrative sales in recent years, with the departures of players such as Ousmane Dembélé (FC Barcelona, €120 million), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal, €63,75 million) and Christian Pulisic (Chelsea, €64 million) bringing a lot of money to the Bundesliga club.

But Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke says he would prefer to be able to keep the best players at the club instead of selling them.

"Of course we benefit from transfer revenue. But I'm not proud of that, because this is accompanied by a loss of quality at the same time. Ideally, I don't want to make any more sales. Because that would mean that we can hold on to our best players," Watzke said in an interview with Sport Bild.

While Dortmund have made a substantial transfer profit in recent years, Bayern usually spend more on new signings than they earn by selling players.

According to Bayern president Uli Hoeness, the Bavarians simply have a different philosophy than their title rivals.

"Dortmund are ahead of us in their in- and outcome records, because they have a different philosophy. We don't want to sell our players at a high price. If a player is really great, we aim to hold on to him or to invest in high quality," Hoeness said.

Bayern have announced the signings of Jann-Fiete Arp (Hamburger SV, €3 million), Benjamin Pavard (VfB Stuttgart, €35 million) and Lucas Hernandez (Atlético Madrid, €80 million) ahead of the 2019/20 season.
