Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has reiterated that the hope and plan is to announce a replacement for the recently sacked head coach Erik ten Hag next week.

“We are working hard on it. I hope that we can announce something next week,” Carro told MagentaSport.

Carro did not comment on specific names, but was willing to outline some of the qualities the new head coach is expected to have.

“We, of course, need a coach who can lead, who provides clarity and direction, and who has substance,” Carro said.

Reports suggest that the frontrunner to take over is Spanish, but Carro did not want to confirm this.

He added with a wink that sporting managing director Simon Rolfes “generally always” conducts negotiations “in German, English or Spanish.”
