In the midst of a disappointing season, Borussia Dortmund could be set for a major shake-up this summer.

A number of their players' futures have been called into question, but Nico Schlotterbeck is one of those who could help shape the club's future.

That's according to Ruhr Nachrichten, who reports that Dortmund are keen to tie the centre-back down to a new long-term contract beyond 2027 and make him one of their top earners in the process.

Schlotterbeck has been touted as a potential future captain a role currently held by Emre Can, one of the candidates to leave the club this summer.

25-year-old Schlotterbeck was signed from Freiburg for a reported €20 million in 2022.
