Confirmed: Darmstadt sign Stuttgart loanee Maglica on permanent basis

SV Darmstadt 98 announced that Stuttgart loanee Matej Maglica would join the club on a permanent basis on Monday evening.
It may have proved a weekend to forget for Croatian defender Matej Maglica. The SV Darmstadt 98 defender - on loan from fellow top flight side VfB Stuttgart - was among a record three players sent off on red cards during the first half of Saturday's Darmstadt-Bayern contest. It has been a turbulent season in general for the 25-year-old. Maglica was also sent off on a straight-red during the round four 3-3 draw with Gladbach.

Those incidents notwithstanding, the center back has become a regular fixture for SV98 head-coach Torsten Lieberknecht. Maglica - suspended for one round after his previous red - has made a total of nine competitive appearances for his loan club across all competitions. On Monday evening, the Hessen based club announced that he would join the Lillies on a permanent basis after the season.

"Matej has proven his qualities and shown that he can still develop further with us," sporting director Carsten Wehlmann is quoted as saying on the Darmstadt website, "We are pleased that he has integrated so well and is fulfilling the expectations we have set for him in sporting terms."

The player himself, who will work on a new deal good through 2027, is also quoted as saying that he felt "right at home with the club from day one" and is "looking forward to continuing beyond the season. VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth confirmed the transfer agreement and wished Maglica "all the best" in his future endeavors.

A specific transfer fee was not released by either club. Maglica maintains a current estimated market worth of €1.5 million in the latest transfermarkt listings.
