United States hope to follow fellow co-hosts Canada and Mexico to the Round of 16 when they face Bosnia and Herzegovina in California. The game will be the first-ever knockout stage fixture for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Several Bundesliga stars will be in action on both sides, including USMNT’s midfielder Malik Tillman. Bayer Leverkusen’s man starts once again, while Borussia Mönchengladbach’s duo Joe Scally and Gio Reyna are named among substitutes.
Ex-Bundesliga striker Sergej Barbarez named five German-based players in his starting lineup. St. Pauli’s Nikola Vasilj is between the posts, while Stuttgart’s Ermedin Demirović plays up front alongside Edin Džeko. Nikola Katić, the 40-year-old striker’s teammate at Schalke, also starts, as does Leverkusen’s Kerim Alajbegović, who scored a stunning goal against Qatar.
